New iaedp Symposium 2012 Program Reveals Record Number of Workshops for Eating Disorder Treatment
More Ways Than Ever Before for Professionals to Earn CEUs
The iaedp Foundation promises an extraordinary weekend designed by leading eating disorder professionals to present an educational and inspiring environment. The annual program explores the latest developments in eating disorder treatment while engaging in a weekend-long dialogue with other professionals and students.
“The iaedp Foundation’s success and growth is a result of our dedication to provide eating disorder professionals a world-class forum to explore contemporary methods for treatment and continue to learn and grow in their ability to serve those in need of treatment,” said Bonnie Harken, managing director at The iaedp Foundation.
In addition to these workshops, iaedp will bring together five world-renowned authors, scientists and doctors as this year’s Symposium keynote faculty. The upcoming Symposium will also provide attendees with exclusive events to entertain and spark new ways of approaching the topic of eating disorders in today’s society. On Saturday night, a special performance of NORMAL, the Musical will follow an afternoon presentation featuring Robyn Hussa, founder and president of NORMAL in schools, along with Jenni Schaefer and Doris Smeltzer. Other highlights include:
• Jean Kilbourne, internationally recognized author and groundbreaking advocate for women’s causes will kick off the series with an exclusive discussion based on her award-winning book So Sexy So Soon: The New Sexualized Childhood. The discussion aims will examine the harmful consequences of the sexualization of children and teenagers and suggest strategies for change.
• Over 40 provocative concurrent workshops taught by eating disorder treatment experts and field professionals cover topics including the complex relationship between personal trauma and disordered eating, understanding the adolescent brain in the treatment of eating disorders, exploring the mysteries of addiction, and collaborative outpatient treatments, prevention and relapse therapy.
• An exclusive presentation of the award-winning off-Broadway family musical Normal, the Musical confronts eating-disorders while promoting hope and survival.
“NORMAL has not only inspired medical experts, parents and educators, it has kick-started an entire nonprofit movement,” said Bonnie Harken. “We are excited to include such an influential program at Symposium 2012 and hope that the infectious spirit of survival will captivate the entire audience.”
