Link UK Services losing faith in Apple… is it time to consider Samsung?

With Apple just announcing the new iPhone 4s, Link UK Services ponders whether it is time to consider changing brands. Samsung’s new Galaxy S II is making waves and many believe it not only competes with the 4s, but can outperform it. Has the iPhone 4s become a follower and not a leader? It is definitely the first time that anyone would dare question the iPhones dominance in the mobile phone market, but with Samsung now having more market share than Apple, and the much anticipated iPhone 5 still, well, much anticipated, even Apples loyal customers are starting to look over the fence at their happy neighbours.
The iPhone 4S is exactly what it sounds like - a slight upgrade to the iPhone 4 with a beefed-up processor, a better battery and a spangly new camera. It also boasts its new Siri feature, which allows the user to interact with the phone using only your voice. All Apple geeks will be excited by these new features until they realise that Samsung have been showing these off for months, in fact, Android has had voice dictation and command capabilities since before iPhone 4 shipped in summer 2010. It looks like Apple is playing catch-up for the first time.
Competition is not normally a word the people at Link UK Services would associated with Apple products, however after cracks start to appear it is not surprising that others are on alert. Firstly the previous iPhone had a rather large flaw, as quoted on cnet.com “the iPhone 4 drops signal like a pirate dropping anchor if you hold it in your hands” – not ideal. Now, Melissa Chau, a Singapore-based research manager at IDC explains “Apple didn't meet expectations on two fronts: launching a cheap, low-end version and also a super high-end phone…that's where Apple's rivals would have an edge."
Most people will agree that the iPhone still rules the roost; however it seems very apparent that the competition is certainly heating up. We can expect the new iPhone next autumn; however Samsung will launch its eagerly anticipated “iPhone-trouncing” Nexus Prime very soon. Moreover, the Nexus Prime is expected to come running Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest version of Android. I for one expect a shift of power over the next 12 months.
